A Word About Leather

I love leather. Bags, shoes, jewelry and clothes--leather is light, supple and super chic when done right. This summer leather dresses and skirts were about as common as their cotton counterparts. Winter is almost here and there's no reason that leather shouldn't be in heavy rotation in your wardrobe. Of course the leather jacket is a must--layered under a faux fur vest or with an oversized infinity scarf it's the epitome of "Wow, she must be French" style. But no, I'm talking about leather pants, preferably in black. Before you start picturing Joan Jett or Axl Rose in all their rock 'n' roll glory, consider this: skinny leather pants are warm, versatile, and in most instances stretchy (ahhhh!!).

How chic is Joan Jett in her skinny leather pants, leopard print scarf and multiple belts? Trendsetter indeed.

Let your leather pants stand in for those skinny jeans and style them in a myriad of ways--with a blazer and ballet flats, with your boyfriend's oversized sweater or with a pretty blouse. They are surprising for daywear--but in the best way. The last thing I'll say about leather pants is that they are affordable. Zara's version is a mere $279, which, when you factor in the cost per wear is, well, cheap. Don't ask me to do math.  Scroll down to see a few of my favorite options and a few of my favorite celebs wearing them.

Genius sartorialist Ashley Olsen pairs leather trousers with a super casual grey sweatshirt. Unexpected and amazing.

VBecks pairs her pants with killer heels and a soft sweater to keep from looking like she's headed to the club at 9AM.

Miss Moss, looking effortlessly fabulous as usual. I, on the other hand, put a ton of effort into looking effortless, usually without the same success. *sigh*
